What is the Concept?
What happens when Charis Academy students team up with Hazleton Launchbox and Penn State’s Dr. Bill Andahazy?
They create a roadmap for a thriving downtown. Introducing The Thrift Alley Project: A student-led initiative to revitalize the heart of our city with thrift shops and supporting businesses. Because thrifting is currently outearning traditional retail 2:1, this move isn't just about second-hand finds—it’s about first-class economic growth. By driving foot traffic to our local business, cafes, and multi-cultural eateries, we’re building a more vibrant Hazleton together.
We are inviting entrepreneurs, investors, and current small business owners to get involved in moving this project from proven business model to reality.
Advantages of opening in Hazleton:
1. We have lower-cost retail space compared to the national average
2. Downtown Hazleton was built around a walkable footprint
3. Northeastern PA has diverse supply channels, such as nonprofits, churches and estate sales 4. Further economic development will create a thrift/vintage “trail” between Hazleton and Jim Thorpe.
Keep checking back for more updates on the project!!
